The cache is housed in a Nalgene bottle. Inside you will find a log sheet, stash note, and some trading items.
I volunteered to hide this cache on behalf of the Association and then had to put my thinking hat on. To me this cache should be representative of what I think geocaching is all about. This usually includes:
- A bit of a hike
- Is family friendly
- Is near a scenic or historic area or a place of interest.
With this in mind, I placed this cache along the abandoned railway right of way just upriver from Fredericton. It is a good hard packed gravel trail which is flat and makes for easy walking, biking, or skiing, with a round trip from car to cache of approximately two km. Along the way you will enjoy some very nice views upriver to the Mactaquac Dam and across the river to Upper & Lower Shores Islands and beyond. There are a number of apple trees along the trail as well as some railroad remnants.
Parking is available along the highway at the mouth of the road which leads to the old McKinley Ferry landing or you may choose to drive down to the ferry landing itself, but you should keep in mind that the road is a bit rough. Do not attempt to drive down the trail to the cache. There is a washout at the McKinley Ferry End.You can also park downriver from the cache on the Burpee Bar road.
ENJOY!
**Please carefully replace and rehide the cache as you found it. Thanks.**
