This is a cache I placed at Camp Old Indian (COI) (the Blue Ridge Council’s Boy Scout camp) while I was up there for my Troop’s summer camp. I have been going there since 1988. A great camp! Permission has been given by the Camp Ranger for this cache.
Camp Old Indian (COI) is located at 601 Callahan Mountain Road, about 6 miles off of Hwy 25 on the way to North Carolina. Turn right off Hwy 25 just past the Hwy 11 bridge above Travelers Rest onto OLD US-25 and follow that until you get to Callahan Mtn Rd.(bearing off and down to the right). Follow this road up past the Poinsett Bridge to Camp old Indian which will be on the right.
You do NOT have to walk into the camp past the parking lot to get to the cache, but you may park in the lot. If the gate is closed, just park in front of it. If the coordinates on your GPSr do not take you exactly to the spot, remember that you are under trees and in the midst of high mountains. The cache is near the entrance. See the hint for more information.
This is a beautiful area. I hope you will like it also.
Permission for this cache was originally given by Buster Andrews who was the Camp Ranger at the time. The current Ranger and some of the camp staff are aware of it also, as is the Chief Scout Executive for the Blue Ridge Council.
(NOTE: After August 1, Summer Camp is pretty much over for the year, except for some outings, so muggles will be much less of an issue)
