After relaxing in the shade of a nearby cactus, the boys decide to get on their rented burros and explore the area further. After a few hours of meandering through twisting canyons and dusty desert, they passed into a valley. “This valley is the most beautiful place I’ve ever seen. Look at those lush cacti and delicate yellow flowers wafting in the breeze!” said Tom, who knew a thing or two about places in the world. The beauty wouldn’t last long. As the men daintily admired their new surroundings, resounding roars and undulations began to ripple throughout the valley. Someone was apparently hungry it was Ed. When one stomach rumbles, the rest all seem to join in some awkward cacophony of hunger desperation.
In the distance, they saw deer running away from them. A stiff breeze blew from behind them and the deer were all too happy to leave the miners with their three-day odors. Knowing that neither of them could catch a deer without a high powered rifle and a twelve pack of beer, the three would-be miners decide to head back to their claim. Back at camp, they all pondered the riches that could lie before them. Ray decides to tie up the rented burros and sets to work starting a campfire. Tom takes out some paper and begins drawing a map of their claim while Ed directs him on which areas may best suit their needs.
After several drawings, they come up with an idea of how to mark the boundaries of their claims and where to place the markers. Just as they were finishing their work, Ray hollered that lunch was ready. Tom and Ed looked at each other and then at one of the rented burros. Both men were imagining large roasts. Unfortunately, Ed and Tom forgot that the only thing Ray could cook half-decently was beans from a can. After lunch, the three friends quickly departed to mark their individual claims. As a token of mutual respect, the three men decided to place the claims to their newfound fortunes into a non-descript decon containers filled with as many normal things as they could think of to throw off would be thieves and curious people like themselves.
This claim lays in a wash with many indigenous trees. Many of them turn various colors in the spring. With enough water, they become different shades of green, and even lavender. Many animals use the trees for food and places to hide. Watch for them, especially the snakes.
Four wheel drive is not required to reach the cache area, but a vehicle with high ground clearance is advised.
