Geocache Description:

This, is Keong Park, home now of the Our Place care centre, Stafford Scouts, Meals on Wheels, a tennis court, a bike track of sorts, a fitness section, a BBQ area, a football field, a sprint track, and a community stage. You may never have really noticed this park, instead, too busy to see a K9 at Stafford, Bats at Longlands, or a High Happy Valley. And even now, you may see just another park.

To me, it's all different. I see part of my childhood and growing up. Our Place was more commonly known as Turner Playground or Turner Park. My sister and I use to go there on school holidays and occassionally on the weekend (both parents worked). There was arts and crafts, red rover, football, cricket and waterslides. And the centre use to take us skating (yes, at Rollerskating Jam Named Saturdays), and to places such as Dreamworld and Sea World.

Previously, the whole area was fenced off. This area extended to the power box at the far right towards Appleby Rd, across to Meals on Wheels, up to the house, across the tennis court to the house on the other side, and back down to the power box. Pretty much, where there wasn't a building, it was fenced in to form Turner Park. Rather large area really.

What makes it somewhat interesting in comparison of today, is that whole area was looked after by approximately 6 or so people in the school holidays, and maybe only 2 on weekends. This could include, one working in the office, one for inside work, one in the cafeteria, one usually playing red-rover, one doing arts and crafts, and one doing general outside work. Now add over 80 to 100 (or more) children in that same area! Tough job

Since then (20 or so years since I started going), the place has been downsized, possibly to meet general community fears (stranger danger, paedophiles etc). As well as trying to make it a place for all types of people to come and play.

This, is the playground of my memories.
