Geocache Description:

Due to health reasons I will be unable to continue maintaining this Cache. Unless someone will take over this Cache then at some date soon after September 1 2019 I will be disabling it. When Stamford was first settled a field outside of town was usually used for the cemetery. This is that field. The trees have grown a bit since then. The first known burial was Mary Gilbert in 1806. The last known burial was Josephine V. (Corcker) Gilbert on April 16, 1933. There are two Revolutionary war soldiers buried here. For a list of those interred go to: http://www.dcnyhistory.org/cemstamford.html Park at: N 42 24.843 E 74 37.556 The parking lot is at the back of one of the great hotels of Stamford "The Rexmere". The local area BOCES now uses the building. If you have time take a walk around the hotel. It is magnificent. On March 25, 2014 the hotel burned to the ground in about 1 hour.
