An earth cache for us valley dwellers.
This 40-ton rock was deposited during a prehistoric flood. Other
than this specimen, rocks of this type are only found in Canada. It
was carried here on a iceberg during an Ice Age some 20,000 years
ago, probably by way of the Columbia River. The rock was deposited
when the ice melted. This is the largest glacial erratic found in
the Willamette Valley. The trail to the rock provides an excellent
view of Yamhill Valley Vineyards.
Park along Oldsville Road off of Highway 18 to reach this park.
From Oldsville Road, you'll need to walk up a short paved path to
the rock itself. The trail becomes steep briefly as you near the
rock.
There is a paved path to the rock itself with a pretty good incline
but it should be wheelchair accessible.
To log this cache you must email me the following: What do
scientists think the original weight of the rock was before people
started removing pieces of it and I will need a picture of your GPS
on the rock itself. If you forgot to bring your camera you will
need to post in your email how many steps it took you to get to the
top.
We enjoy reading everyones logs when they find our cache hides and
appreciate when they say more than TNLN or THX.
Have fun and happy caching!
