Van oorsprong is Ten Boer een wierdedorp, ontstaan op een kwelderwal. (Wierde is Gronings voor terp, een kunstmatige verhoging, die voordat Nederland bedijkt werd diende om tijdens hoog water de voeten droog te houden.) Opgravingen tonen aan dat het ontstaan teruggaat tot voor de jaartelling. In de eerste eeuwen blijft de bebouwing hoofdzakelijk beperkt tot kleine boerderijen. In de twaalfde eeuw, toen kloosterorden gesticht werden in de provincie Groningen, vestigde zich een klooster op de wierde bij de al bestaande dorpskerk. De bebouwing van het dorp concentreerde zich eerst op de wierde aan de Stadsweg, die toen nog HeereWeg heette. Later kwam de bebouwing rond de kloosterkerk. Na het graven van het Damsterdiep rond 1425 werd de omgeving van ‘de Bolte’ bebouwd. De brug over het Damsterdiep heet nog steeds ‘Boltbrug’.
Centraal in het dorp staat de Kloosterkerk, een restant van het voormalige klooster. Uiteraard is deze kerk ook een beschermd monument. Vanuit de kerktoren laat het carillon ieder kwartier een vrolijk liedje horen.

Ten Boer is a special kind of village called a wierde village. (Wierde is a local dialect word indicating an artifical hill. This hill was built in the old days before the Netherlands had dikes to keep the inhabitants dry of the high tide sea which would flood the country here). Excavation show that this place in inhabited since the roman time. In the first centuries Anno Domino the build up areas were limited to small farms. In the twelfth century, when different orders were founded in groningen, a monastry was built on the wierde. The build up area was concentrated around the Stadsweg which was called HeereWeg (Dutch for Lord Street), but was more and more focused around the monastry. After the canal Damsterdiep was built in 1425, more houses were built in the area which is now called de Bolte. The bridge is still named after it Boltbrug.
Central in the village is the old church, a remnant of the monastry. This church is now protected as a monument. Every quarter of an hour the old carillion still plays his song.

Dit is waar de zoektocht begint. De cache ligt verborgen in wat vroeger de kloostertuin was waarvan het kloosterkerkje nog een overblijfsel is. De cache ligt midden op de wierde aan een middeleeuws aandoend steegje. Dit steegje leidt de ene kant op naar een oude water put en de andere kant op naar de oude kerk in Ten Boer.
Hoewel de cache net op privé terrein van een derde ligt, is het niet nodig op privé terrein te komen. De cache is vanaf het pad te bereiken. Respecteert u aub de privacy van anderen. |
The search starts here. The cache is hidden in what used to be the gardens of the monastry, of which the church is still a remnant. The cache is hidden on the wierde in a Medieval like path. This small path now connects the old water well with the church.
Although the cache is hidden on private property of a third party, it is not needed to go on private ground. The cache can be reached from the path. Please, respect privacy of others. |
