Taps Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

grn beret 2b: There was a time when I wanted my caches to become the oldest caches in the Austin area since I was one of the youngest. Unfortunately, the geocaching community has become one that I don’t enjoy being a part of. Instead of having fun with the hunt, most geocachers just want to find the cache and get the smiley, even if it means they have to put out the 5th container nearby. This cache managed to avoid that drama, but instead ran into the opposite problem.

Thanks to Hello Pittie for having the courtesy of sending me a message to let me know that the ammo can has been stolen and this geocache was turned into geo-trash.

Mrs Captain Picard put on a great event out here years ago and I was more than happy to help do my part in helping to fill other cachers’ D/T grids, but it’s time to play a round of Taps for Taps. Maybe someday someone else will put a regular sized cache here instead of just another film can.

Geocache Description:

This cache was placed in preparation for the Biking and Rollerblading on the Veloway event, GC140GH

Of all the military bugle calls, none is so easily recognized as that of Taps. In the British Army, a similar call known as Last Post is played over soldiers' graves, but the use of Taps by the United States Military is unique.

Taps began as a revision to the signal for Extinguish Lights at the end of a duty day. The music was first adapted in July of 1862 by Union General Daniel Butterfield, commander of the Third Brigade, First Division, Fifth Army Corps, Army of the Potomac.

This cache is placed in memory of all those who have had Taps played over their final resting place in memory of what they gave for their country.
