Geocache Description:

This is the 15th in my series of hides near fire lookout towers.

Ritter Butte Lookout, 4200', is located a scant 1/2 mile off Highway 395. Definitely not the "wilderness" experience you might expect of the typical lookout in the western U.S., but a very flammable area. The 3-story enclosed tower, built in 1950, overlooks miles upon miles of grass, sagebrush and juniper. It is staffed on an emergency "as needed" basis by an Oregon Department of Forestry fire crew....that is, when they aren't out fighting fire. 2012: there will be a full-time lookout on duty (well, 5 days/week anyway) this summer.

Recently a gate has been installed on the lookout spur road, but it is just a short walk up to the lookout from there.

You're seeking a camo-painted lock-n-lock style container with logbook, writing instruments and a few trades. Watch for critters before reaching in!
