Mabana Memories Traditional Cache
dogwood digs: Checking on the cache today and discovered the main hiding container/ box has been over taken by a large rats nest. The cache was placed in 2007 and I guess it was time to archive. Thanks to all 465 cachers who made the find!

Summer 2019 a recent addition of " Little FreeLibrary.org" has been added near the cache spot. The cache is a easy one to drive up to. For history purposes the original ammo can is hidden as well, too rusty to work properly so the cache container has been updated to a plastic lidded container there you will find the log book and trading swag. This July we'll celebrate the 16 th year since Mabana Memories has been active! Congratulations to Babyback Packers for FTF
Activity on the South end of Camano never really started until around 1911, when Nils Anderson began logging operations and built a 900 foot wharf which he platted Mabana.Signs of the wharf are no longer visible. At the same time a small store and post office were started by Jack Hogle. In 1916 a wagon road was put in as for as Mabana. That same year a school house was built with community support which to this day still stands and has had many owners and is a private residence today. The south end of Camano has a bit of a reputation as a rather rough place because it was just the kind of place moonshiners could produce and sell to visitors from Seattle. In 1956 with the onset of population growth in the area there was the need to build a firehouse which still stands today. It is manned by Volunteeer personnel this is 1 of a total of 5 fire stations located on Camano Island. Prior to that time calls for service would have been from the Stanwood area. If you like, take the time to look over head and across the street you just may spot a Eagle and it's nest .. but most of all enjoy!
