Veloway Adventure Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Vertighost: Cache owner (CO) has not responded and, as there's been no cache to find for for an extended period of time, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. In general, caches that have been archived due to maintenance issues or lack of cache owner communication are not eligible to be unarchived.

Geocache Description:

Another Veloway Cache - You must ride a bike or wear Rollerblades to access this cache.

This cache was placed in preparation for the Biking and Rollerblading on the Veloway event, GC140GH.

From the Austin Parks and Recreation Website: “The veloway is a 3.17 mile, 23 feet wide paved trail that winds through the scenic Slaughter Creek Metropolitan Park. In a very secluded area of the park, riders enjoy being away from street traffic and noise. The trail is designed for bicycler's and rollerblader's, walkers and runners are prohibited. The trail is open daily from dawn to dusk, except on March 31st, April 15th and June 8th , when the veloway will be closed to the public for approved special events. The trail can be accessed from Mopac, south of Slaughter Lane.”

The cache is a German Butter Dish and does not need to be turned completely closed to seal. Just turn the 2 halves in opposite directions until the lid is snug. It will hold small trade items and a couple of geocoins. It is located in an area where it is very easy to walk (not ride) your bike far off the trail. You should be fairly safe from muggles.

The veloway always brings back a memory of rollerblades, a steep hill, a sharp turn, grass, cactus, a large rock, rolling head over heels through the knee high grass at what had to be 40 mph and a young boy laughing hysterically as he followed us back to the car riding his 16 inch Batman bike. He claimed he was laughing at the grass sticking out of my clothes and helmet. I think it was actually the sight of his mother’s near death experience that tickled him so. This one is for you, grn beret 2b – keep looking at the bright side of things.

Congratulations to Lignumaqua on FTF AND on his first cache as a US Citizen!!! Enjoy the coin!!
FTF prize was a non-activated Indian Paintbrush GeoCoin.
