Geocache Description:

Our whole family climbed Mt Rose on July 31st, 2004 amidst an amazing migration of literally millions of California Tortoiseshell butterflies. We had to be careful not to swallow them as they became more numerous and we started breathing heavier as we gained altitude. They were most dense on the very top of the mountain as a strong wind from the East blew them up and over the mountain. It was a magical experience.

The cache is actually placed at one of the headwaters of Galena Creek near where a spring comes right out of the mountain. This had always been a favorite stop on our way to the peak. The new trail no longer passes this location but it is an easy walk from the confluence of the new and old trails. It is also an easy walk from the "Robert's Waterfall" cache.

A funny thing happened as we were placing this cache. We were looking at potential hiding spots and Nevada Wolf came across what was obviously an old and never published cache. It did not have a cache disclaimer page or a logbook but it did have some pretty typical swag in it. We put a log book in it and hid it in another spot along the trail. If this was your cache, please contact me and I'll be happy to turn the cache over to you again.
