In community woodlands between East and West Hanney. Flat ground, one style to cross.
TJB Speed cache is our first cache and named after my three children, plus a reference to the cache theme. The cache contains racing car stickers, wind and go racing cars and wheel clock. If you can please leave items along the same theme.
The cache is hidden in a quiet and recently planted woods between the villages of East Hanney and West Hanney. There is car parking along the lane next to the village school. Take the bridlepath opposite towards Grove, the woods are a approx. 400m down this path. You may need boots if it has been raining.
About the Hanneys - The Hanneys were built in pre Norman times on a gravel bed in the Vale of the White Horse, the Church in West Hanney, St James the Great, dates back to approximately 1160, you can hear the bells chime from the woods.
Letcombe brook runs through the villages, this used to provide power to the now sadly disused mills, the last of which closed around 1920, but can be seen in East Hanney next to the hump-backed-bridge.
One of The Hanneys claims to fame is to have been the home of the oldest ever recorded English woman, Elizabeth Bowles died in 1718 aged 124. The church displays a plaque to this remarkable woman near the font on the north wall.
These woods are little known - even to locals. It took me four years to discover them by accident. I hope you enjoy the peace and quiet.
