Behind this car lot is a simple burial site that dates back to at least early 1800's.
The size of this cemetery is deceptively small; many gravesites in this area are now unmarked because the wooden markers, popular in the 1700’s, decayed over time.
This is the resting place of William Ramsey Yancey who was one of the rare children who survived the dreadful Fort Mims massacre in 1813. In 1814, at twelve years of age, he was a drummer boy with General Andrew Jackson’s army.
Mr. Yancey lived in the Village until his death at the age of 97 years.
