A pleasant little walk along a nature trail.
Our little city has set aside several small areas showcasing native vegetation, and this cache is nestled in one of them. Maritime forests occur on stabilized dunes of barrier islands. The vegetation on these sites is adapted to living with salt water, both from the salt spray from the ocean and occasional tidal flooding from the ocean or marsh. Trees and shrubs on these sites are typically broad-leaved evergreens and pines. Common species include live oak, southern red cedar, southern magnolia, cabbage palm, saw palmetto, water oak, myrtle oak, slash and loblolly pine, wax myrtle, yaupon and American holly. The trail has signs identifying several of these trees, shrubs and animals. If you are really lucky you may see the gorgeous little Painted Bunting.
To find the cache, park near N32 00.800 W80 50.699. You can pull of the road and park in the grass at the entrance to the trail.
You are looking for a rectangular quart-size “Lock and Lock” container. The original contents include several foreign coins, a postcard, cheap plastic toy dinosaurs, cheap stretchy plastic lizards, smiley face erasers, a log book and maybe something else. Certainly nothing of any value.
You are looking for a live oak tree. The coordinates listed are the best I could come up with after many visits. The problem is the dense tree canopy which interferes with satellite reception. Use the coordinates to get close, then use the clue. After that, it shouldn't be too hard to find.
There is some poison ivy alongside, but not in the trail, so look out for it.
