The cache is located near the Old Mission Inn which was built in 1869 by George and Betsy Hedden, it was known as Hedden Hall. It also served as the Old Mission Post Office till 1889.
In 1902 it became The Porter House when it was bought by Alfred and Ella Porter. They ran the Old Mission Telephone Company there from 1906 to 1926.They also ran a stage coach service that picked up guests from the steamships that docked in the bay. In 1932 two famous guests who signed the inn's register were Babe Ruth and Joe Louis. The cost of their stay including dinner and breakfast was $2.00.
In 1945 the Inn was bought by the Nevingers and it became known as the Old Mission Inn. The Nevingers were the first to install plumbing and electricity in the inn. Prior to that the guests used two outhouses and chamber pots at night.
In 1998 the Inn was purchased by Bruce and Angie Jensen who have been restoring it to its former glory. They run the Inn as a Bed and Breakfast and have a wonderful collection of period antiques which include a 1880's Post Office, 1901 Stage coach,1906 telephone switchboard, 1870's flag and a 70 foot "Hall of History".
