Geocache Description:

A small lock type plastic box located just off the public footpath in Mereworth Woods near to the MOD training camp.

As 2007 is the 100th year of Scouting (visit link) and as part of our Centenary Celebration Camp during August 2007, which ran concurrently to the 21st World Scout Jamboree in Essex, (visit link) we have decide to lay this, our first Scout Group Geocache. This is a new activity for most and we hope it will inspire the young people to further explore the greater outdoors.

The cache box contains items which are connected with Scouting in some way or other (some very loosely) and it would be nice to try and keep the theme for as long as possible.

For more information about the International celebrations please go to the Scout's 2007 website (visit link)

As mentioned above the woods also house an MOD training camp which has been there since the 1930s and has some public rights of way passing through it. If you find yourself entering the MOD site it is essential that you follow all the instructions and byelaws at the point of entry particularly the ones concerning children and picking up objects on the ground etc.

The woodland is managed so at times large plant and machinery can be found operating in the area.

Another cache in the area which could also be attempted at the same time is Deep Digging Mole’s “Mole’s Hill View 4 –Two for one” (GC11XP4) (visit link)
Then there are 3 others in the nearby town of West Malling, these are Malling Manor (visit link) Wring it out (visit link) and the Multi, The Turner Prize (visit link)

As this has been placed in the summer the tree cover has made it difficult to get a certain fix but we are fairly sure that we have it right. Please let us know if you disagree wildly with our co-ordinates. We will re-check them again if/when we get some feed back.
