Near the berm of the Shortcut to 220, between Frankstown and Altoona. NOT suitable for children, as the cache is near a busy road. There is no parking at the cache site itself; park in nearby residential areas and walk to the site. If you choose to cross the road on foot, do so carefully!
The mountains of Pennsylvania occasionally hide giant ant hills, made by a mound ant, Formica exsectoides. These ant hills vary in size from new colonies a few inches high to mature hills, measuring over ten feet across at the base, though rarely more than three feet high. They occur in groups; and in one place near Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, within a space of fifty acres, someone reported seventeen hundred well-developed mounds. I don't know if this is the exact spot or not, but there's a lot of giant ant hills here. DO NOT TRESPASS onto private ground; more ant mounds can be seen from the public rightaway by walking downhill from the cache site; on the left side. The mounds are visible year round. DO NOT MOLEST THE ANTS!
