In woods near the waterfront
Aylmer has a long history. In the 1800s this part of town was a jewel, with Symmes Hotel at the end of Lac Deschenes. Aylmer was home to one of the oldest yacht clubs, and quite possibly, the oldest clubhouse on this part of the Ottawa River. The Aylmer Boating Club was established in 1891, and became known as the Victoria Yachting Club a few years later.
It had up to 300 members and was described as being a "very exclusive club". It was next door to "Queen's Park", an amusement park with an elaborate water slide, an impressive merry-go-round, a roller skating rink, a maze, and other activities. Both the park and yachting club closed in the 1920's, but the area is still identified as "Queens Park" on today's nautical chart.
Drive along the waterfront and enjoy the views and try to imagine a time long ago.
This cache is in a wooded area near the waterfront further down .."in the country". The container is a big pill bottle . The area is used by dirt bikers who have built elaborate jumps and stages further up the hill. If you have the time, follow the path a little ways up into the woods and check it out. In the summer, the woods offer great leaf cover. This cache may be quite open in the winter so more stealth will be required at certain times.
Small trades are OK.
