Geocache Description:

located off Mamalahoa Hwy on the outskirts of Waimea.

This memorial was placed here to commemorate the military camp that was established here during World War II. Parker Ranch and Waimea was host to the returning invasion force of Iwo Jima. Please visit the link Camp Tarawa History to learn more about the history of this place and the contribution the residents of Waimea made to the war effort in the 1940s. The presence of the military here in those days of war perhaps forever changed the island of Hawaii. This cache was adopted on 3/18/2012 and is now being maintained by Leenah.
