Geocache Description:

Rocktown is one of the neatest places that I have visited. There are lots to explore, so give yourself plenty of time. It's an easy 1 mile hike in and well worth the visit if you are fascinated by rocks and erosional features of the earth.

The Pedestals of Rocktown

Erosion is the process by which the surface of the Earth gets worn down. Erosion can be caused by natural elements such as wind and glacial ice. But anyone who has ever seen a picture of the Grand Canyon knows that nothing beats the slow steady movement of water when it comes to changing the Earth.

The key to erosion is something called "fluid flow." Water, air, and even ice are fluids because they tend to flow from one place to another due to the force of gravity. Of the three, liquid water is the most common agent of erosion because there's so much of it on the surface of the Earth.

To gain credit for this cache.

You are seeking a hidden Rock Pedestal. (Note the terrain rating!)
There is one a large pedestal rock on the main path ( N34 38.951 W085 23.516 ) that resembles a Champaign Glass. Children under 12, older folks, or physical abilities may use the Champaign pedestal Rock to claim this earthcache. Please note in your log if you are claiming this earthcache for the original target or alternate target on the main path. Be careful and have fun. If you are uncomfortable with heights, do not make the climb. You will still be required to answer the three questions for the less physically challenging walk/climb as well.

1.Take your picture at the hidden pedestal rock with your GPS in hand. I want to see your face or I will delete your log without notice. Update-January 6, 2008: Apparently, I was not specific enough with the picture requirements. You are looking for a cone shaped rock pedestal. I want to see you and your gps along with the cone shaped balanced rock in the picture. As of January 6, 2008, all pictures not meeting the requirements will be deleted.

UPDATE 2010:
Picture requirement:
My intentions are to have you post your picture standing at the hidden pedestal. If you refuse to post your face in the picture, then each log must have a unique picture for each log. Tilting the picture with a photo program will not be acceptable for unique. Group photos must reference who's picture you are in otherwise. A unique picture must be included with every log if you are not in the picture. .

Email me the following answers before you log your find....
2.Tell me the demensions of the rock pedestal. Height and width.
3. Tell me the elevation reading on your GPS
4. Tell me in your own words how you think this formation came to be and guestimate how long it took to come to this formation.
