Adlestrop is a pretty village that was immortalised by Edward Thomas`s poem 'Adlestrop'which he wrote as the train he was travelling in stopped at the station, the second verse reads,
The steam hissed, someone cleared his throat,
No one left and no one came,
On the bare platform, what i saw,
Was Adlestrop-only a name.
The station is now closed but the sign and bench now stand in a shelter in the village, this is where the cache is hidden and all four verses of Thomas`s poem can be found on the bench.
The verses are made more poignant by the fact that Thomas didn`t live to see his work published-he died in action during the first world war.
