Turn into the Kaspian recreation area near homewood. Road forks a little, but stay on paved road til it turns to dirt. About 5 miles. Trailhead is on the left, immediately after pavement ends.
Ellis peak trail is a butt kicker right away, but very rewarding views 1 mile into hike. Total hike to cache is around 3 miles in. Take lots of water! I do suggest going as high as you can on this trail. The view of Lake Tahoe is unparalleled. You can see from shore to shore all the way around!! (Except emerald bay) Cache is on the final ascent of the trail. In a shaded area in the afternoon. On the North side of trail.
