Geocache Description:

This is a short multi taking you to another of Harold Parker State Park’s ponds, this one in North Reading. Bradford Pond is a small, shallow pond built by the Civilian Conservation Corps when the park was laid out. Because it is small and shallow, it is not used for boating or swimming so not many people visit this area. This is a good thing for the Great Blue Herons, turtles, frogs and beavers that call it home.

Parking for the cache is in a small roadside pullout on Marblehead St at the listed coordinates. Room for two cars (please don’t block the fire gate.) Walk down the road to the posted cache coordinates. At the first waypoint you will find yourself at the end of the pond where you will have a nice view of an active beaver lodge. Search for the coordinates for the final - a 2" ring of PVC pipe hidden with some natural camouflage (coords also inside small Bison tube very near PVC pipe). No swimming or wading is necessary. If you go early or late in the day, one of the lodge members may swim over to investigate and you will hear them slapping their tail on the water to sound the alarm. A short walk along the road and a 30’ bushwhack will get you to the final. The final is a good sized army surplus mortar round container. You shouldn't need a trail map to navigate your way the cache, but if you would like one you can go to: http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/trails/harold.gif
