Geocache Description:

“ Michigan Spirit Quest”

The Waterford Cemetery is located on the east side of Franklin Road, about a half of a mile south of Waterford Road, in Northville Township. The area here was originally named, Waterford, however it completely disappeared by 1899. The park at the corner of Six Mile and Northville Road is named Waterford Bend and the lake across the street from the park is named Waterford Lake. The largest industry here was a large flour mill, built by three brothers, Marshall, Wadsworth & Samuel Mead. The remains of the mill are still there along Hines Drive. Since most of the first settlers of the area were mill workers, the village was also known as Meads Mills. There is a nearby middle school also named Meads Mill.
The Mill was also a key stop on the underground railroad, helping runaway slaves to escape to Canada.
The original land owner here was Dyer Ramsdell, who is also buried here along with other members of the Ramsdell family. The burials here date back the 1840's. The last burial here was about 1961.
