Geocache Description:

The cache is located on a large island in Red Pine Lake along the Haliburton Highlands Water Trails.
Cache Elevation: 372m

Accessible by canoe or kayak, expect a trip of approximately 8km in from the Big Hawk Lake Access Point. The route includes 2 portages (225m & 210m) and can be easily done in a day, though you may wish to plan and stay the night on one of the many excellent camp sites in the area.

Starting from Big Hawk Lake, travel North-East to the top of Big Hawk Lake, portaging 225 meters into Clear Lake. Continue paddling North to the 210 meter portage into Red Pine Lake. Once on Red Pine Lake, you're within a nice 2km paddle of the island.

When you get to the island, you'll find an Overnight Campsite (Number 34) where you could camp the night, in addition to a Day Use Only Campsite (Number 56) where you can land your boat and play on the beach.

The cache is located at the base the high bluff under a large rock, within sight of a large crevasse. It's a camouflage painted .30-cal ammo can filled with the standard Geocache items.

When we originally visited this area, we were hoping that the rock face would provide an excellent jumping platform, but we were disappointed by the lack of water depth. In fact, it's only a couple feet deep with a sandy bottom. However, it provides an excellent location for a beach, so it wasn't a total loss. So take warning, NO JUMPING or DIVING from the rocks, but feel free to practice your bouldering skills, as there are some neat areas to climb to.

NOTES:
  1. Canoe / Kayak required.
  2. Portages (2) required
  3. Overnight stay possible
  4. No jumping, or diving from the rocks
