Found on a stretch of State Route 83 though Holmes County located
at American Legion Post 551. Because of the location this area does
have wasps so please be careful. We do our best to keep them down
but it is difficult in the spring and summer months.
This cache is located at the site of American Legion Post 551. On
site is a Viet Nam era helicopter and a M3 Light Stuart Tank. The
helicopter saw service in South Viet Nam in 1968-1971 with the 20th
Special Operations Squadron. It was flown to the USAF museum in
April, 1980. The M3 Light Stuart Tank an American lightweight tank
used in World War II. This particular tank's history is unknown
other than it was brought to Holmesville in the 1940's by railcar.
It was painted Red, White and Blue back in 1976 for the
Bicentennial but was changed back to the olive drab color. Having
it repainted is on a to-do list. If you know any Eagle scouts out
there that would like to tackle the job don't hesitate to contact
us. This area is of interest for us due to the aforementioned
equipment, this was placed as a remembrance to all the fighting men
and women of our country. In order to find this cache you will have
to perform a 'red light' violation and reach under the skirt of Old
Ironsides. Be nice, otherwise you might see the old gal 'unhinged'.
It is a small, magnetic, container under the track access skirt
between the center and end of the tank. This is a daylight only
cache. Please DO NOT climb on the tank or open the
helicopter.
