Granite Railway Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

cassabellac: so twice now we have tried to verify the cache is still here
1st time there were city workers there to clean up the graffiti
they informed us there is a neighborhood man that cleans up the park
2nd time 1 member of our team got impaled by a piece of fence that was sticking out
we have come to the conclusion that the man who cleans the area must be discarding our cache and since we do not know who he is to ask him to stop we have decided to let this one go.
Please check out the nearby earth cache and continue to enjoy this historic landmark

Geocache Description:

Terrain is vey level but you could not reach the cache from a wheelchair. Area is clearly marked that it is closed after dusk, please respect that. There is a cache called Grover's near here, but I would not try to hike between, due to marsh land in between.

This is the Second of our Historic Quincy Caches.
This is also another part of the Blue Hills.

Quincy was home to the first commercial railway, called the Granite Railway. It was built in 1826 specifically to transport Quincy's granite to Charlestown, for the construction of the Bunker Hill Monument. The remains of the Railway's incline are located feet from the cache.

Please take sometime to look around there is a lot to see. In the fall and spring it is possible to hike up the railway's incline and see more artifacts from the old railway.

We were talking to one of the neighbors and he informed us that there are also old pictures of the railway located in the The Old Railway Cafe located on the corner of Bates Ave and Willard Street.

Also if you have not done so already, Please check out SRD525's two caches along the freedom trail, Blast OFFset and Quincy.
