A short walk from the lane up to a cache near Blaithwaite House in North Cumbria.
Blaithwaite House originated in 1820 as a small farm. Nowadays it consists of a large Victorian house, plus stables and other outbuildings converted into residential accommoodation. There is also a camping field with Solway views, and a little sandstone folly summer house on an island in the small lake.
In 1969 Blaithwaite's main house was repoened as a Centre for church and other groups, and the other buildings converted over time. Today it is still under the same ownership but is managed by a Christian charity which lays on all kinds of outdoor pursuits.
The cache is hidden at one of the old entries to Quarry wood on a nearby public footpath. Until a few years ago there was a delapidated assault course which began with a zip line from the point where the cache is hidden. I suggest a parking point just along the lane from the main entrance to Blaithwaite.
The replaced cache is now an ammo box, containing log book, pencil, sharpener and eraser, a few little swaps, plus ideal for TBs and geocoins looking a cool place to hang out for a while.
Many thanks to Mal at Blaithwaite who has given permission for this cache to be hidden. Visit www.blaithwaite.co.uk for more information about the place.
