I've been trying to place a hide here for some time now. A newly installed sign gave me the inspiration I needed.
I have caches scattered all over Middletown. Most of these are placed along a bike route that I regularly ride to keep from getting fat and slothy. While out riding, I check on them and occasionally spot a cacher looking for one. This location was on my route and I've wanted to place a hide here since Airnut archived the first stage of a multi he had hidden by the nearby canal.
This is just a cool place to visit. There's a nice view of the river, a boat launch, some picnic tables, the remains of the Union Canal, a nearby benchmark, and even a mailbox made from a lawn tractor. It's also a nice spot to watch planes coming into the airport.
The cache isn't as interesting as the location. It's just a green match container held in place with a little black disc magnet. Slide the magnet down to get to the cache. The pencil keeps vanishing so it's BYOP for now.
The benchmark is in a PVC pipe up by a busy road and some active railroad tracks. I suggest using great care if you want to find it in that dangerous area.
