This cache has been placed in honour of the new wooded creek trail. SOC Creek Trail #1. Also to reintroduce the stately statue of Captain Wheatley which will be located on the East side of the village of Wheatley. Parking Co-ords. N42*05.766 W082*27.483 Please rehide cache well as there seems to be a lot of muggles along this trail.
In the early 1990's, Captain Wheatley was transformed from a giant Poplar tree trunk, into the "Captain Standing at the Ships Wheel". The Captain was created by Ken Boshell, "The Chainsaw Man of Michigan." He stood for years in the middle of the village and eventually was removed and stored away. The statue has recently undergone necessary restoration in 2007 and will once again be on display. It will be erected at the trail head at the East end of town, sometime in the near future. We have been invited by the Concerned Citizens Committee of Wheatley, to place a cache to commemorate the new Trail and to Welcome Back the Captain. Please enjoy the trail and say Hi to the Captain. Take your time and look around this quaint little fishing village of Wheatley. If you want to learn more history about Wheatley drop in to Bowman's across the street and ask for Grant.
