Geocache Description:

Quiet Rocks

We originally intended dedicating this cache to a smelly Norwegian delicacy, but fortunately we changed our minds after placing the cache. This explains the title "Gammelost" (old cheese) on the logbook.

The mighty Felsentor rocks are a spectacular feature on the southern side of Rigi. The former hotel there now operates as a centre for contemplation and meditation. Whether you believe in these practices or not, you cannot fail to be impressed by the location and the facilities. An additional reason for visiting is to follow the cleverly created path between the massive rocks, which must have tumbled down the mountain. If you ignore some of the more esoteric symbols, this is a very attractive short walk from the hotel "vehicle park", which leads you to a romantic waterfall, and nearby to the cache.

The container consists of a black 8cm diameter cylinder about 20cm long, with a large screw cap. It's hidden at the base of a tree on top of a rock, which can be seen in the spoiler. When searching, please avoid damaging the surroundings or yourself, especially after rain.

The area is not restricted to participants in the meditation courses, but please respect their wish for total peace and quiet - for this reason the cache is probably unsuitable for younger children. Once you have found the cache, you can relax in the garden terrace (open in summer, except Monday and Tuesday) and enjoy a vegetarian snack with a fantastic view of the Alps.

There is unofficial parking at the location shown, from which you can enjoy a 40 minute steepish walk up to the hotel. If you are really lazy, you could take the cog railway from Vitznau to tiny Romiti-Felsentor station and walk down, but that would take longer, cost more and benefit you less.
