Summer, friends, the beach and caching, what could be more
fun?
Recently, I called up some caching buddies (CherokeeCachers,
Geek-Qualizer) and headed down to Matagorda Island for some 4x4
caching. With my Toyota FJ Cruiser fully loaded, we drove miles
thru sand, driftwood, jetsam and flotsam in order to find the two
caches located on this 25 mile beach. After stopping for a hotdog
roast, we decided that we needed to leave a cache to commemorate
this most excellent 4x4 adventure.
This cache is currently the closest cache to “civilization” but
it is still advised that you have a four-wheel drive vehicle, a
horse or be prepared for a very long hike. You will be looking for
a small camouflaged waterproof container located near one the
largest pieces of driftwood on the beach. There are a couple of
trinkets, but no pen so bring your own.
After hiding this cache, we hopped back into the 4x4 and headed
back to the beach entrance. Did you know that on all Texas beaches
the maximum speed limit is 15 mph? *At least that is what the beach
policeman told us when he pulled us over.
