This magnificent avenue of Moreton Bay Fig trees was initiated by Dr. Richard Schomburgk, an internationally known botanist and director of the Adelaide Botanic Gardens from 1865 to 1891 (where another beautiful avenue of these trees exists).
This tree line continues along the South Para River bank to Walker Place and there are several other small stands of Moreton Bay Figs scattered throughout the older parts of the town. They were all planted more than 100 years ago.
Your target is the centre table, which celebrates the Song of Australia, submitted successfully for its lyrics and music in the National Song Competition for our National Anthem, but came second to Advance Australia Fair.
While you're here, take note of the metal arches through the trees in each direction from the table. Check out the seats and look at the cone in the centre of the table for the music, verses and song words.
Satellite reception around here can be pretty dicey, so you may have to look around a bit. PLEASE PLACE CACHE BACK EXACTLY AS YOU FOUND IT.
