“INDIANA SPIRIT QUEST”
The Indiana Spirit Quest series of
geocaches will take you to a number of historic cemeteries
built by Hoosier Pioneers. In three years, the quest has grown to
over five hundred fifty caches hidden in Indiana, Ohio, Michigan,
Kentucky, and Ontario and the hiders have grown to over thirty
cacher teams. Over 1,000 cacher teams had
logged over 25,000 finds when we quit
counting.

"ERVIN'S
LAMB REDUX"
This Quest will take
you to the Funk Cemetery in Warren Township, Huntington County,
Indiana. Near the cemetery is the 1881 Union (St. Peters) Church,
that is now a private residence. There are tombstones here dating
to the 1850’s. This cache is dedicated to children taken home
before their time. In the nineteenth century, with medical science
being primitive compared to our present-day standards, Life
expectancy was a lot shorter than today and many women died in
childbirth or their children didn’t survive childhood illnesses. If
you search here, you can find six Altman kids buried in a row;
There are also four infant Daileys and five infant France's at rest
here.

who have never gone Benchmark Hunting and would like to try, here's
your chance, as there is a benchmark very near here, located on the
highway right-of-way. You can learn more about benchmark hunting
starting from the Home Page. This particular one is LA1716, and
here is a partial description:
N 40 58.367 W 85 37.433
(NAD 83) "...At the intersection of an east-west...road and at the
southwest corner of Union Churchyard, 180 feet south of the
centerline of the road (CR 1000N), 30 feet east of the centerline
of the highway ( SR 105), 55 feet southwest of the southwest corner
of the church building,...7.5 feet northeast of a fence corner, 1.5
feet north of a fence line...set in top of a concrete..." It's an
easy find.(It's helpful to know the length of your stride, when
pacing out the distances...)
