Located mauka in H.O.V.E. , AKA "The View", one of eight
subdivisions in the immediate area with over 200 miles of paved
road. This unique area located on the south end of the Big Island
has a growing population. There are about 11,000 one-acre lots. An
oil company built it in the '60's with the dream of creating a new
community. Acre lots originally sold for $995 each. Rain catchment
is the water source. There is no well. There is no school. Party
lines were the norm until 1998. Mauna Loa last covered the area
with lava in 1907. Ocean View is a tight knit community and most
are happy to be living here! According to "Hawaii The Big Island
Revealed" guidebook, "the Big Island is often rumored to be one of
the largest repositories of people from the Federal Witness
Protection Program. What a perfect place to lose one's self." Take
time to read the information at the kiosk.
