Geocache Description:

The SQ in the cache name above signifies Spirit Quest, a project to distinguish those caches that are set in cemeteries or memorial gardens. I feel this is a good distinction to put on this type of cache and would like to see it used here in Michigan. Please be respectful of the area, and observe their rules and posted hours, Michigan law states that you are only permitted to visit cemeteries dawn to dusk through out the state unless other hours are posted.

Although the cemetery is open during the winter weather, the cache may become difficult to retrieve with snow and ice.

Calvin Perrin and his wife, Mary, came to Troy from New York in the 1830's and settled on 160 acres along what is now 14 Mile Road between Crooks and Coolidge roads. Several other members of the Perrin family settled nearby. Their family cemetery was established in 1840 and deeded to Troy Township c. 1850. It is about one acre in size and in the western central part of section 32. Pedestrians may enter at Coolidge Road. Some of the older stones have deteriorated and their inscriptions are unreadable.

Calvin Perrin, son of Timothy and Lydia [Raymond] Perrin (May 21, 1854), was born September 17, 1793. He gained his education in the common schools. Calvin came to Wyoming Valley [PA], early 1800's and settled in Kingston, Pennsylvania around1810. He owned a farm on the flats in the heart of the wilderness, and there he remained one year.

He moved to higher ground in Northumberland township, Pennsylvania where he purchased a small farm.

The original place he abandoned turned out to be one of the richest coal fields in the valley.

Children of Calvin Perrin:
1. George, born September 23, 1817, d. April 15, 1875.
2. Permelia, born February 9, 1821, married William White, and died April 12, 1860.
3. Daniel, born December 23, 1822.
4. Betsey, born July 29, 1826, married John Long, July 1847:
5. Gurdin, born August 18, 1828, d.Dec 24, 1866
6. Polly, b. Jun 9, 1830, d. Oct 26, 1831
7. Ezra b. Sep 29, 1832

There is a family of 7 that all died in 1964. I tied to look up how the passed, but found nothing. (Update: Thanks to SEWdaugh for finding out what happened and to TypoWiz for finding the documentation. I will not say what happened on this page due to the graphic nature... but if you want to know, email me and I will let you know.)

There is also a soldier here; Segt James Simonson. I tried to find more info on him and what kind of service he was in, but was not able to find anything. His headstone is very worn.
