Geocache Description:

Located in Silver Cliff cematary. It is accesible in winter, but not winter friendly.

Mr. MagOO's father, Don served in both the Korean War and WWII from 1946-1951. During WWII, Don served most of his time at Ladd Field in Fairbanks, Alaska. He was a mechanic and crew chief for #4 engines on the B29 bombers. Don asked the local legion if he could place a memorial, he felt it would be a great honor to have the opportunity to build this for his fellow veterans who served or died for their country. Don, having been a mason his entire adult life, built a beautiful memorial from stone he obtained from home, Canada and Alaska. On the back of the memorial is a plaque which shows the year, 2003, when the monument was built and also the date of the future opening of the time capsule enclosed inside the memorial - 2053. The top stone is a flame, which represents Eternal Life to those veterans who have passed away. All four of Don's brothers served our country in the armed services. Don's wife Pat had a brother who was also in the armed forces. Don and Pat have now retired to the Silver Cliff area and we are very proud of this monument that they contributed.
