Geocache Description:

Seamer is a large village south-west of Scarborough, which has a number of interesting historical sites, including the ruin of Seamer Manor, St. Martin’s Church and the ‘Mere’ from which the village takes its name and which was once a lake. All three can be seen from this cache.

The cache is a small tupperware containing the following: notebook, 2 pencils, 3 bangles, a Yorkshire rubber, a plastic crab, a shell and a 1 cent US coin.

It is hidden where a public footpath meets the permissive land around Manor Garth. For more information about this land go to (visit link)

We suggest parking on Ratten Row at the south of the village, just before the Arosa caravan site and following the footpath along the side of the caravan site. Once clear of the caravan site, look for a large metal gate on the right at N54° 14.092, W0°27.070. Go through this and take the path to the right into the woods. Follow this until you reach the cache.

For a circular walk after finding the cache, cross Manor Garth going either in front or behind the church and join the main road through the village. Head northwards for refreshments. (The village has 3 pubs, a small supermarket, a newsagent and a chippie.) Otherwise head south back to Ratten Row.

The Garth can be very muddy – it is marshland – so wear appropriate footwear and head for higher ground near the church as soon as possible.
