Part G of The Walnut’s Cracked Series takes you to the Glen Onoko
access point for the Lehigh River in Lehigh Gorge State Park.
Parking is abundant on your way to the cache. During the week, you
can park very close. But the weekends may have you looking for a
parking spot. From the Pennsylvania Water Trail Lehigh River Water
Trail website: “This access area is in an isolated setting,
although it's just a few miles from the borough of Jim Thorpe. The
beauty of the Lehigh Gorge, a nearby series of waterfalls, and a
lovely resort attracted visitors in the latter 1800s. During much
of the 1900s, after the hotel was leveled by a fire, the area lay
largely unused. Remnants of the old railroad bridge and the
"hole-in-the-wall" railroad tunnel are visible above the river
level. Its development as a state park -- since 1980 -- has brought
new attention to the area.”
I’m taking you to the hole-in-the-wall. Enter the tunnel at N
40? 52.940 W 75? 45.740. You will need to decode the hint in order
to know where you are going inside. You will need a flashlight.
There are some rocks and railroad ties inside, so be careful. Most
of the tunnel is empty space. Venture to the other end and see
people down near the river.
It is a blue micro, eye level, and covered with some small
rocks. Secondly, and only if you are participating in The Walnut’s
Cracked Series, you need to write down the numbers for part G on
the log. Return the cache as found. Have Fun and Good Luck!
Making this a member-only cache due to the stealth requirement
& the fact that it was vandalized shortly after it was
published.
