Geocache Description:

Welcome to another installment in the Wisconsin Spirit Quest, offspring of the Indiana Spirit Quest. This series is intended to highlight the history to be found in our local cemeteries and graveyards. These caches are placed with due respect and are not in contact with or in close proximity to any of the markers. Please hunt with the reverence these hallowed grounds deserve.

This is Lombard Cemetery, not a real leap of logic when you realize that every single stone in the cemetery belongs to the Lombard family.

This cemetery was the victim of vandalism several years back, and most all of the stones have been toppled. Where rows of stones once were, there are now just neat stacks leaned up against some of the larger monuments. The smaller markers of the Civil War veterans held up well, and there are four of them standing.

Halbert Lombard, Co I, 37th Wisconsin Infantry

Lewis Lombard, 44th Wisconsin Infantry

James Lombard, Co E, 18th Wisconsin Infantry (oddly enough he has two stones side by side)

and

1st Lieutenant Leonidas Lombard, Co E 44th Wisconsin Infantry (a name that rolls well off the tongue)

You will find the cache at N44 25.ABC W089 25.DEF
