This geographical marker has been in place since 1938 when Frank
E. Noyes placed it here. He has other markers throughout Marinette
County, WI.
From Wikipedia: Latitude gives the location of a place on Earth
north or south of the equator. Lines of Latitude are the horizontal
lines shown running east-to-west on maps. Technically, Latitude is
an angular measurement in degrees (marked with °) ranging from 0°
at the Equator (low latitude) to 90° at the poles (90° N for the
North Pole or 90° S for the South Pole).
Whether you are aware of it or not, you use this angular
measurement every time you go geocaching. The waypoint for every
cache location is given in terms of latitude and longitude. And
when you use your GPS to find a cache (or to find yourself in
relation to a cache), it gives you a location in terms of these
same measurements.
To claim this EarthCache you must do the following things or I
WILL DELETE YOUR LOG!!!! Please do not post the answers in your
log, send them to me by e-mail.
First question: Why is the north latitude for this marker at 45
degrees?
Second is a task: Take a picture of yourself with your GPS or
your GPS alone at the cache marker and post it on the cache page or
e-mail it to me.
Third is a research question: What is the name of the line that
crosses the equator at 0 degees longitude through Greenwich, UK and
divides the Earth's east and west hemispheres?
YOU MUST DO THESE THREE THINGS AND E-MAIL ME THE ANSWERS IN ORDER
TO CLAIM THIS CACHE. I WILL DELETE YOUR LOG IF ALL THREE
REQUIREMENTS ARE NOT MET. Thank you for visting my EarthCache!!!!
:-)
