Even though this is an Oktoberfest type event, there will be no alcohol at the event.
This will be a family event with lots of fun for all.

We recognize this is on Thanksgiving weekend and some will not
be able to attend but we also feel that this would be a great time to
bring non cachers visiting for the holidays out to an event to introduce them to
geocaching as well as the spirit of Oktoberfest.

That being said, we will look into some apres event adult activities. Stay tuned!

As well, if there are those interested in camping, let us know. I will likely be camping myself.

Food:

Lunch will be prepared keeping with the Oktoberfest theme. On the menu will be:

Oktoberfest Sausage on a bun

Sauerkraut

Potato Salad

Root Beer (and other soft drinks and water)

The food will be BBQed up by volunteers and will be additional to event and park costs.
The prices will be only to cover the cost of the food and as with the event fees,
any excess will go to the K/W Food Bank.

About Laurel Creek:

Laurel Creek Conservation Area is a beautiful spot in the heart of Waterloo, Ontario.
The shelter that we have reserved (called the Critter Shelter) is large enough
for more than 125 people under the roof. It has flush toilets, electricity, and running
water not to mention the adjacent sports field and close proximity to the beach area,
trails, playgrounds, and many campsites.

Updates:

Aug 27: We may have some luck with the GRCA!! I have just gotten off of the phone with the Manager of Conservation Area Operations at the GRCA head office and he sounds in favor of geocaches being allowed in conservation areas withink certain guidelines. He asked I email him and the manager of Laurel Creek some info and proposals on geocaching and also to meet with them to discuss some options. Stay tuned!!

Sept 5: WooHoo, great news! Ted and I met with the Park Superintendant at Laurel Creek Conservation Area and he has agreed to let us place caches within the Conservation Area under a few criteria which we are still working out the details on. These will basically just involve times of day that the area can be accessed, restrictions from the ski trails in the winter, and no access to environmentally sensitive areas. We will likely have event AND new, live caches at the event so attendees of Oktobercache will have first crack at FTFs that will go live after the event and are therefore loggable. This looks like a first step to acces for geocaching at GRCA properties throughout the region!
Oct 2: HELP!!! We need a volunteer to help run some activities this weekend. We could really use some help running the kids games from 10:30 until 11 as well as helping with the Root beer Drinking and Pretzel Eating contests at 3. Please let me know ASAP if you are able to help.
