A bit of railroad history comes to downtown Maricopa.
There is no reason to venture anywhere near the tracks. Cache is located well North of the station.
I'm keeping with my theme of trains and planes.
This vista dome car was part of the Chicago Burlington and Quincy's Fleet. This type of dome care was introduced in 1947. It is believed to be the only remaining California Zephyr glass-domed dining car in existence. Shortly after being used for several scenes in the film "Pearl Harbor," the car was officially dedicated as Maricopa's Amtrak station in October 2001, before Maricopa became an incorporated city. Presently, the offices/station have been moved to a rather mundane modular building to the South, I figured now is a great time to place a cache here before the rail car might be moved. Unfortunately, you can't tour the inside. However, if you have the time, say "hi" to Bob who works at the station. He's a fountain of knowledge about Amtrak.
Congrats to azdiablos for the F2F!
