This small cache is placed not far from the Shuswap Falls lookout platform located at the Shuswap Falls/Wilsey Dam BC Hyrdo Rec site. This rec site is situated just off the Mabel Lake road between Lumby and Mabel Lake. Watch for it on the left hand side of the Mabel Lake road after you cross the Shuswap River on route to Mabel Lake. Although stealth is sometimes required I placed this cache enough out of the way that muggles shouldn't be too much of a problem. The cache itself replaces a micro cache that was in the same spot. Now its big enough to hold geocoins and small trade items. This cache is about a 10 minite walk from stage one of the Shuswap River Cache so be sure to check that two stage multi cache if you have time. Parking options for both caches are listed below.
The West Canadian Hydro Electric Corporation constructed the Wilsey Dam and generating station at Shuswap Falls in 1929. Later the BC Power Commission succeeded the Corporation, which in turn, became BC Hydro. The concrete dam was built at the site of the original 21-metre-high Shuswap Falls while the spillway channel was blasted through solid rock immediately to the north. For your own safety, stay behind fenced areas, away from all hydroelectric operating structures, and away from steep cliffs.
Facilities at the Shuswap Falls Recreation Areas include 10 picnic tables, 40-car parking, landscaped areas, viewing platform, canoe pull-out, launch and portage trail, hiking trail, drinking water and two toilets.
