Geocache Description:

Roadside highpoint with a great view.

I drove into eastern Cowley County armed with an ammo box and the co-ordinates for the highest point in Cowley County. Unfortunately, the highest point is on a closed road. I reached a gate almost 2 miles from my spot, so I had to improvise. The highest point is 1586 feet at 37 23.800 W96 31.710 on the Ferguson Ranch. It is possible that high pointers can obtain permission.

So, we have a close second here. It is the highest point on a paved road in Cowley County. The elevation here is 1505 and the view to the east is great. You look down onto the Caney River valley about four miles east and four hundered feet below you. In between vehicles, the peace is wonderful and US 160 is not very busy through here. The town of Grenola sits in the valley. And there are no caches really close and this is an easy way to grab Cowley County from the east.

This is also the highest point on 160 between the Ozarks and the Red Hills near Attica.

I originally hid an ammo box because it was what I had. It contains coins including a new Jefferson Dollar and miscellaneous other items. Since it has been muggled (probably by the SGCO brush hog on junket to Elk County), I have replaced it with a coin tube.

Park at the driveways just west of the cache. Be careful in pulling out onto 160 because visibility is limited.
