This cache is hidden in the Cimetiere du Pere Lachaise in Paris'
20th Arrondisement.
Pere Lachaise is BIG - wow! The guy hawking maps outside the
gate said it was 105 acres - I can believe it. It is a fascinating
place and well worth the short metro ride out to the 20th to see
it.
I went with the intention of placing a cache near Jim Morrison's
tomb, but they have toned things down a bit where he lies and even
have a cop posted there now to keep bohemians and dope smokers from
misbehaving.
Bohemians, dope smokers and GeoCachers, that is.
Morrison's tomb is a bit of a letdown... Track down some of
these others which are quite interesting in of themselves: Allen
Kardec, Sarah Bernhardt, Chopin, Victor Noir (visitors rub his
crotch for good luck - you can, too!), Oscar Wilde, Moliere, Edith
Piaf...
We opted NOT to buy the 10f map from the vendor outside the park
and regretted it later. The map that was in our guidebook did not
provide enough detail to allow for easy location of specific
tombs.
The cache WAS a 35mm film canister and his hidden UNDER
something, in plain view from a particular vantage point. You
needn't have left socially acceptable areas in order to find it,
nor do you have to dig, move anything, etc. As the cache was
removed (although the clip that held the 35mm film canister in
place remains) I have changed this to a virtual cache. Any
GeoCacher is welcome to bring along a new 35mm canister and replace
the cache!
For the virtual cache: What is the name of the "avenue" inside
Pere Lachaise closest to the cache?
Each sentence of the encrypted hint/spoiler reveals more about
the location and the cache. The final line tells exactly where it
is in plain English.
Enjoy!
