VAN LEEMAFGRAVING TOT WATERBASSIN

In de boswachterij Chaam komen verspreid liggend leemlagen voor. In de zestiger jaren is leem afgegraven voor produktie van de vroegere steenfabriek in Chaam. De afgraving is nu ingericht als retentiebekken.

Bij extreme waterafvoer is de capaciteit van het bekken niet voldoende en stroomt het water over de drempel heen. Na enkele droge dagen is het bekken leeg en gereed voor het opvangen van een volgende afvoergolf.

Door de hogere waterstanden in het bekken zal zich hier geleidelijk aan het bos veranderen in oorspronkelijke staat van voor de afgravingen.

DIG OFF LOAM BECOMES A WATERBASIN


In the forests of Chaam layers of loam appear to be spread all over the place. In the sixties loam has been dug off because of production of the former stone factory in Chaam. The dig off is now established as a retention basin.

The capacity of the basin is not enough when the run-off water is extremely. Then the water will overflow the threshold. After a few days without rain the basin is empty and ready for capturing the next run-off.

Because of the high waterlevel in the basin the forest will change gradually into its authentic shape.
