The River rocks are near the centre of Rovaniemi for everybody to see.
Jokikivet on siirretty Kemijoesta, kun vesivoimalaitoksia on rakennettu.
The River rocks have been moved from the river Kemijoki when the waterpower company started to build waterpowerstations in Kemijoki River.
Jokikivet ovat kahta erilaista kivityyppiä:
A. Kivi vastaa kemialliselta koostumukseltaan basalttisia laavoja. Kiven väri vaihtelee jonkin verran sen koostumuksen mukaan. "Mustaksi graniitiksi" kutsuttua kivityyppiä käytetään mm. hautakivinä. Mistä kivestä on kyse ?
B. Kivi on kivettynyttä soraa, jossa sorakivet ovat kittaantuneet toisiinsa vedestä kiteytyneen kvartsin avulla. Kiven rakenne määräytyy sen soran mukaan, josta se on muodostunut. Kivi on pääasiassa jokien kerrostamaa rapautumisainesta, joka on peräisin vielä vanhemmista kivilajeista. Mistä kivestä on kyse ?

The River rocks are made of two different kinds of rocks:
A. The first type matches the chemical composition of its original form: basaltical lavas. The colour of the rock varies depending on its composition. The rock which is called "Black Granite" is used as gravestones. What is the name of the rock ?
B. The second type of rock is petrified gravel, where the gravelstones are cemented to each other by the help of the crystallized quartz from the water. The structure of the rock is determined from the gravel which forms it. The gravel is mainly the river's disintegrated material, which is from even older rock type. What is the name of the rock ?
