Geocache Description:

CONGRATULATIONS to CAMZOTTER for the FTF!!

Urban Micro Cache. Just a log, bring a writing utensil! Please make sure to put the cap back on tight and rehide carefully.

This Micro Urban Cache is named after the wind driven, kinetic sculpture that sits upon The National Academies building at 500 Fifth St. NW Washington DC.

I happened upon this cool sculpture while walking back to work after visiting 100 Million, a now archived Nano Cache by Stolaf.

From the National Academies webpage for the sculpture: "The concept for this kinetic sculpture was motivated by the concerns and activities of the National Academies -- with an emphasis on research. Symbolically it focuses on the analysis of our multi-textured world by an intelligent and compassionate eye. Three concentric circular planes all move independently while sharing the same vertical axis; movements are initiated by the wind. When the wind allows, the circular planes align and combine to form two mosaic images that dominate the sculpture, one side representing the human eye and the other side the cosmos. Inherent in the design are the macro and the micro interests of the National Academies. This piece defies stasis, offering primarily an abstracted and compelling image of motion and change.

I just think it is a cool sculpture that people should see.
